2008 Survey Results in ActionMenlo Aquatic Center Season End SurveyAt the end of the 2008 pool season, the Borough asked patrons to complete a survey on their experiences at the pool. Thanks to the many great suggestions we received from members, numerous improvements and additions were made before the 2009 season to make the pool even better. Below is a breakdown by category of the 2009 action plan. Snack Bar ActionsA new snack bar manager was hired to replace the voluntarily departed previous manager. The new manager has a greater knowledge of computer software inventory control and comes to us with many years of experience in the food service industry. To assist in greater control over daily operations and staff, the position of assistant snack bar manager was added for the 2009 season. However, many of last years staff will not be re-hired due to poor evaluations. In response to the survey results, it was noted that quality control over certain products like pizza, ice cream and soft pretzels was poor. This year, every product will have greater attention to detail in regards to supply and quality control thanks to the assistance of outside vendors. Due to the lack of interest in healthier food selections we carried last year, we have added new selections for the 2009 season. Unfortunately, there will be a slight increase in prices due to food cost inflation and efforts to produce a profitable but fair revenue margin. Pool & Bath House ActionsIn response to the survey results, customers indicated that they would like stronger enforcement of rules by all lifeguards. To address this, we have taken extra time during the training process by adding two extra days of training to ensure all guards have a full knowledge of the rules of safety and are unified in the enforcement of rules. It is important to note that we were very satisfied with the vast majority of our lifeguards, so 80% of them will be returning in 2009. However 75% of last year’s bath house attendant staff will not be re-hired due to poor evaluations and/or voluntarily moving on to a new job. To address comments on the cleanliness and quality of our bath house restrooms, we have completed the original construction and added new floor tile, new partitions, sinks, cabinets, toilets and urinals. Both restrooms are handicap compliant and up to date with the current code. As for the cleanliness of the tiles throughout the bath house, a new floor cleaning product was purchased to ensure that all floor tiles are kept as clean as possible throughout the season. To address the issue of drainage around the pool deck along with the mud problem where grass did not grow, we installed new water strip drains which will aid with the drainage issue. The grass seed that was planted has grown in completely eliminating mud/dirt patches on the landscape. To offer customers greater quality service for major announcements, a new wireless public address announcement system was installed throughout the Menlo Aquatic Center. In response to survey comments, patrons of the pool will be notified by signage upon entering the Menlo Aquatic Center as to what special event or group/party will be taking place for that given day. The hours of operation will remain the same. However the cost of memberships for non-residents and daily passes will increase to match neighboring municipal aquatic facility rates. Program ActionsThe swim lesson schedule will mimic last years schedule due to the success we had in 2008 with both attendance and schedule rotation. However, due to the Pennridge Gators Swim Team sharing our facility during this time period, management will monitor the quality of our programming to ensure our product is not being compromised due to space and time constraints. Due to lack of interest, Lap Swim/Adult Swim hours will be shortened to an hour in length. In response to survey comments, patrons of the pool are requesting more Movie Nights, DJ Parties and Family Fun Nights with special themes. In 2009 we have added an additional DJ Party Night and have left open the possibility for extra movie nights if the weather and the private party schedule permits. Patrons have also requested that we look into providing live concerts at the Menlo Aquatic Center. The option for live entertainment will be examined, and if the budget permits, the Labor Day Party at season’s end may become a suitable time to test this suggestion. If successful, the 2010 season could be budgeted for some live acts. The Borough of Perkasie is committed to providing you and your family with a safe and fun experience while visiting the pool. Survey ResultsThe action plan outlined above was the result of an annual survey conducted at the end of the 2008 season. Respondents who were surveyed answered the following questions and ranked their responses on a scale from 1-5. In the survey, a response of 5 indicated an excellent result, 4 was good, 3 was average, 2 was fair, and 1 was poor. Each of the following questions measures 2008 responses to those given in 2007. However, it is important to note that some questions were new in 2008, so they will not be compared to a previous benchmark.
