2011 Flood Plain Update Information

Recently the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) issued new draft flood plain maps for communities in Bucks County. They are known as Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM).  They are slightly modified from the old flood plain maps that were prepared in 2004 and enhanced in 2008.  FEMA is now looking for public comments regarding these proposed new maps.

A letter was mailed to all properties that are included in some part in either the new or old flood plain boundaries to make sure that homeowners are aware of the potential changes. There may be implications to those property owners regarding flood insurance for that property. 

Perkasie Borough has utilized the data supplied by FEMA and has prepared an interactive map that shows the new proposed flood boundaries and compares them to the latest adopted 2008 boundaries. You can view these maps by clicking on the link below.

By clicking on the layers to the left of the screen you can turn on and off the 2008 (old) flood plain, the new (2011) preliminary flood plain, as well as the map enhancements (political boundaries, right-of-ways, lot lines, street names, and streams). 

Perkasie Borough has had no direct involvement in the preparation of the base maps. Thus, we are unable to answer any technical questions regarding the underlying data. After receiving public comment, FEMA will finalize the new map and advise the borough. At that time, it is expected that the Borough will revise its official flood plain map and prepare revised zoning regulations in accordance with the new federal guidelines.

Bucks County residents now have the opportunity to attend an informational meeting on September 28^th on the proposed revisions to the flood insurance rate maps and the National Flood Insurance Program. The meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the Tinicum Township building, 163 Municipal Road, Pipersville.
