Household Hazardous WasteBring your household hazardous wastes and old Computers to one of the following scheduled events: What can you bring? As many as three old Computers and up to 25 gallons or 220 pounds of Hazardous Products. Read the label! Hazardous Products will have cautionary words on the label. For example: Danger, Warning, or Caution. Other words or phrases that can signal hazardous products include: poisonous, hazardous, combustible, flammable, corrosive, volatile, caustic, irritant, explosive, toxic, use with adequate ventilation, or avoid inhaling. If there are no words indicating it is a hazardous product, it likely isn’t. Dispose of it in your regular trash! The County of Bucks sponsors Household Hazardous Waste Days each year that include recycling of computers. As a resident of Bucks County, you may participate in any of the days listed below. Hours are 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Collections are held rain or shine. The remaining collections are rain or shine, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., as follows: Saturday, June 21 | Upper Bucks County Area Vo-Tech School, 3115 Ridge Road, Bedminster Township Saturday, July 19 | Middle Bucks Institute of Technology, 2740 Old York Road, Warwick Township Saturday, Aug. 16 | Bucks County Technical High School, 610 Wistar Road, Bristol Township Saturday, Sept. 27 | Quakertown Community Pool, 601 W. Mill Street, Quakertown Borough For more information on the program, visit the Bucks County Planning Commission's Recycling Pages. Why?Household products containing toxic chemicals, like pesticides, oil based paints, solvents, cleaning products, weed killers and automotive batteries can be a threat to people and the environment if improperly discarded. Never throw these materials into the trash, as the toxic chemicals may harm sanitation workers, or result in fires in collection vehicles. It is also not safe to pour them into a sink or storm drain as they can end up in the environment polluting the air, water, or soil. Do Not Bring - LATEX PAINT (it is not toxic – it is water based)* - Appliances (with or without Freon) Remove lid to allow to air dry or mix with absorbent (e.g. kitty litter) until no longer a liquid and discard in plastic trash bag. To dispose of latex paint, let it air dry to a solid. Be sure to keep it away from children and pets. It may be placed out with bulk trash once thoroughly dry. To speed the process, kitty litter, vermiculite, shredded newspaper or oil-dry may be added to absorb the liquid. Try to purchase only what you need. Return any un-opened cans. Use leftover paint from one project for the base coat of another project. You can also use the paint for birdhouses, fences or basements. See if friends or neighbor have a need for your leftover paint. Or check with local schools, community groups or a sign painter to see if they could use it.
