Menlo Aquatic Center is Open!

June 17, 2008

The newly remodeled Menlo Aquatic Center is now open for summer fun! At the end of last year’s pool season, the Borough asked patrons to complete a survey on their experiences at the pool.  Thanks to the many great suggestions we received from last years members, we have made improvements and additions to make the new pool even better.

Several changes were made in the concession area.  Many patrons asked for healthier food options and the Borough listened, adding options such as fresh salads, trail mix, and yogurt.  Along with traditional snack bar options, we hope your family will enjoy the new variety.  A new computer system will be utilized in the snack bar, which will help the staff keep a better inventory of food.  Three stations for servicing customers will provide faster service, and patrons will order and pick-up from the same window this year.  In an effort to improve customer service and shorten wait time, a snack bar manager has been hired to oversee the daily operations and staff.

New equipment has been added to the pool!  On the survey, many users of the pool asked for additional chairs around the pool area.  More lawn furniture, picnic tables, tents, a swim station for swimming lessons and tubes was added.  Grass seed was planted on the lawn last fall and a healthy meadow of grass now grows around the pool.  And the drainage problem that caused so much mud last year has been improved.

Additional changes have been made to the programs offered at the Menlo Aquatic Center following the survey.  Swim lessons for 3 to 5 year-olds have been added to the schedule, and a swimming station has been ordered to cater to smaller children.    For the safety of the children in our community, the swim test rules will remain the same for all slides, the diving board and the rock wall.  Once a day, the staff will give an introduction on how to practice for the swim test, so that young swimmers can be better prepared.

American Red Cross CPR classes and DJ parties have been added to the program line up.  Members can enjoy the free water aerobics class again this year.  And while the price for parties has increased slightly this year, the cost of memberships and daily passes will remain the same.  Movies will be free for members beginning in 2008!

Further remodeling to the building was completed over the winter and spring months.  The interior of the building was refreshed with a new coat of paint, giving the interior a much more welcoming look.  New counters were added at the entrance, allowing more counter space for sales and membership.  In the locker rooms, new tile floors and tile showers were installed, along with new lockers.  The locker rental fee is $1 deposit and $1 fee.  The completion of the locker room remodeling project is slated for 2009, when the restroom area will be renovated.  Budgeted for 2009, the new tile floors will be extended from the locker rooms into the restrooms, and new sinks, toilets and stalls will be added.

Menlo Aquatic Center membership passes can be purchased during hours of operation at the Aquatics Center only.  Make sure to leave adequate time for purchasing memberships. Pictures and ID's will be issued at this time.

Tred food and drinks will be offered, with a full menu becoming available at 4 p.m. The pool will be open 7 days a week from June 21st to September 1st.  Go to the Park and Recreation site for a full list of hours of operation.  The Borough of Perkasie is committed to providing you and your family with a safe and fun experience while visiting the pool.  As always, please feel welcome to contact the Borough if you have any questions or comments by calling (215) 257-5065.
