Get All The Dirt On Composting!

Penn State Cooperative Extension, in a partnership with Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PA DEP), has developed a statewide backyard composting education program. The goal of the backyard composting program is to promote the recycling and reuse of yard trimmings, leaves, grass, kitchen scraps and other organic materials. County Extension agents and Master Gardener volunteers in counties around the state hold composting workshops every fall, and participants in the workshops get all the dirt on composting from an hour-long PowerPoint presentation followed by a hands-on demonstration.

The Perkasie Olde Towne Association (POTA) has teamed up with the Borough of Perkasie to offer a composting class that will be taught by Penn State Cooperative Master Gardener Bill Moyer.  The presentation will be held on Saturday, August 28th in conjunction with the POTA Saturday Mornings in Perkasie farmers market event.  The PowerPoint presentation will begin at 9:30 am promptly at Perkasie Pizza and Pasta.  The group will move outside at 10:30 am to the location of the farmer’s market (7th and Market St.) to get a hands-on demonstration of how to build a composting bin in your backyard.

Space is limited in the class!  Reserve your spot today by calling POTA at (215) 257-4989.
