Family Fridays are held the second Friday of the month at Pennridge High School Cafeteria. Located on 5th Street in Perkasie PA. Doors open at 6:00 pm for dinner, the entertainment begins at 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Family Friday runs October- April.

October 10, 2008 | MAD SCIENCE HALLOWEEN EVENT

Are you looking for the perfect touch of spookiness this Halloween? Our Mad Science Halloween Special Event is just the thing. Through a mixture of science and magic the children will see a paper spider turn into a 'real-live' spider. Hear the tales of Count Eggbert and Countess Eggberta as they battle the wicked witch. Watch as the wicked witch is melted right before your eyes! The audience will find out how the seemingly sane Mr. Bernoulli helped the Mad Scientist float an eyeball in the air. Then, as a grand finale, the Mad Scientist will introduce the audience to the eerie world of Dry Ice, making bubbling potions and lots of fearsome fog. All will have an evening of gruesome goodness and fun!

The Holidays are a wonderful time of the year. Full of magical stories, history, traditions and lots of fun and surprises. The history of the Christmas tree and Chanukah and the reasons we celebrate them is explained in a fun and magical way. The Polar Express will have every child wanting a bell and make their way to the North Pole. How Santa fits so much into has sack and how he magically enters your house is some of the things that are demonstrated and explained. Eric even makes it a White Christmas complete with snow.

Discount theme park tickets are available at Perkasie Borough Hall from May through August each year for many local and out of state recreational facilities. The savings is significant on many of the tickets offered. Check discount prices here from April through August.

With each ticket sold, Perkasie Borough Parks and Recreation earns 50˘ or more toward local parks and recreation projects. When purchasing your tickets at the Borough office you will save money while supporting your community.

Tickets may be purchased from Perkasie Borough Hall, 620 West Chestnut Street, weekdays from  8:00 am to 4:30 pm. - walk-ins only. There are no phone or Internet sales through Perkasie Borough.

If you are interested in tickets, but Perkasie Borough is not convenient  to your location, you may call the Pennsylvania Recreation & Parks Society at 1-814-234-4272 to order tickets and have them mailed to you.  There is a one dollar handling fee for this service.

Discount Ski Tickets

Discount ski tickets are available from December through March of each year for Camelback, Shawnee, Elk, Montage, Big-Two (Jack Frost and Big Boulder), Blue Mountain and Bear Creek.


Camps

Register for all camps at Perkasie Borough Hall, 620 West Chestnut Street any weekday between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm. Pre-registration must be done in person or by mail, you can also download the registration form, call or e-mail to request that the forms be sent to you. Payment must accompany the registration form(s). The Borough reserves the right to cancel or change any programs without sufficient registration.

Programs and events are automatically cancelled for inclement weather or emergencies. Perkasie Borough reserves the right to change or cancel any activities, events, or costs.


UK ELITE SOCCER CAMP

This program is based on teaching the fundamentals to beginners and improving the skills of those children who already know the game of soccer. U.K. elite guarantees to improve every player that attends their camp through the best professional coaching staff and the most cutting edge curriculum. Each participant will receive a U.K. Elite/Reebok T-shirt, Reebok soccer ball, and an individual player evaluation. MEGA MULTI SPORT CAMP

Experience over fifteen different sports from around the world with the US Sports Institute. All activities will take place in an atmosphere which promotes good sportsmanship, teamwork, and most of all fun. Campers will receive technical instruction in each sport, the experience the sport in a realistic game situation. This summer camp is dedicated to the sports minded youngster.

LACROSSE CAMP

Beginner Lacrosse players will have great fun learning this exhilarating game. The US Sports Institute lacrosse program is ideal for entry-level players with no previous experience. SPORT SQUIRTS

The US Sports Institute Sport Squirts Program has been designed to introduce young children to a variety of sports in a safe, structured environment. All games and activities will encompass hand/eye coordination, balance, agility, and movement - all key factors to the early development of children in sport. in addition to having a great time playing the different sports, children will develop social interaction and communication skills. All sports are developed through a series of games and activities designed to ensure learning and most importantly: FUN!

PONY GROOMING & RIDING PROGRAM

This unique program provides an exciting and inexpensive introduction to the wonderful world of equines in a fun-filled, non-threatening atmosphere. Pony Share uses ponies and cobs, smaller and easier to handle than their larger equine counterparts. Small groups of four to six children are formed according to age and prior experience - if any. After reviewing Safety Rules, materials previously covered and learning a new subject matter, children are assigned their size-related pony or cob and each small group works under the tutelage of a qualified instructor. Some of the horsemanship matters covered include: safety on and around horses, basic anatomy, equine senses, body language, grooming, the tack and harness, driving the miniature horse, English and western riding, barn management and careers in the industry. Participants also get to shortly ride and drive their charges three to four times during each session. this program enhances teamwork and self-esteem while developing genuine appreciation and respect for the animals. Course materials are provided.

PETITE EQUESTRIAN PROGRAM

This program is suitable for new participants who tend to pick up the pace a notch and are perfect for returning slightly experienced participants of those who prefer learning at a slightly faster pace.

SPACE: NEXT MISSION

Throughout the week, brave young astronauts will explore the mysteries of the scientists study of the planets and stars, and what kinds of tools are used for space exploration. Children will discover not only how astronauts get into space but how they live and work once they get there. they will learn about gravity, propulsion, and the basics of rocket science through fun, hands-on activities. children will come to understand that propulsive forces can come from many sources, experiment with balloon rockets, and make their own air rockets to take home with them. Most importantly, they will learn first hand about the aerodynamic properties of flying machines by building their own Estes® model rockets! Once the rockets are completed, children will blast off on a Mad Science space mission with the grand finale, the rocket launch!

SURVIVAL: PREDATORS VS. PREY

Predator or Prey; which will you be? In our newly revamped Nature camp, kids will learn how animals, big and small, adapt to life here on earth. Campers will learn how birds and beasts catch their prey without becoming someone else's lunch and will then be challenged to survive in the pulse pounding "Food Chain Survival" game. kids will also discover what Mr. owl had on his dinner plate during the famous owl pellet dissection. We'll also have fun finding and magnifying natures smaller critters - from insects to pond slime. Campers will build a real birdhouse to take home and will have creepy-crawly fun building a bughouse and searching for tenants! In addition, kids will enjoy hands-on fun learning how changes in wind, water, and temperature can affect Earth's inhabitants.

MAD MACHINES

Whether your child loves to build things or destroy them, this week of camp includes a lot of both! The junior Mad Science engineers will design and build bridges and "skyscrapers" using simple tools and their imaginations. kids will even construct a geodesic dome big enough for all the campers to sit inside! Then the machine madness starts... Children will discover how many different machines, simple and complex, we use in our daily lives. Campers will have fun building their own catapults to take home and will work with simple machines such as pulleys, wedges, screws, and levers. After the simple machines, we move onto fun with the Mad Science robots! We'll play robot soccer, test line-tracking robots, and help our team direct sound activated robots around an obstacle course, all while learning the science of robotics!

SKYHAWK BASEBALL

Skyhawks stays true to the classic with a baseball program that builds young athletes' skills through drills and exercises developed with game speed in mind. Skyhawks baseball is specifically designed to teach and refine the fundamental skills of the game - fielding, catching, throwing, hitting, and base running - while infusing each athlete with the exciting spirit of the game. Each athlete will learn basic skills in exercises tailored to individuals through tee hitting, soft toss, and live pitching. Every athlete will be equipped with the opportunity to succeed. SKYHAWK BEACH VOLLEYBALL

Skyhawks Volleyball takes the fun and excitement of a great team sport and delivers it in an appealing and engaging way. All the aspects of the game are developed in a series of drills and exercises focusing on passing, setting, hitting, and serving. This co-ed program helps each athlete develop the fundamental skills of the game through game-speed drills and scrimmages aimed at developing the whole player. SKYHAWK FLAG FOOTBALL

Skyhawks flag football offers a complete package of skills and thrills that teaches every young athlete to enjoy this fast-paced game. Athletes will get a rich introduction to all the positions on offense and defense, preparing them to be true champions on the gridiron. The program will also introduce the core skills of passing, catching, and de-flagging or defensive positioning - all presented in a fun and invigorating training environment. the week ends with the Skyhawks Bowl - a chance for athletes to showcase new and refined skills. What you should know...
There is a minimum of eight players per team
There are four divisions with separate boys and girls teams.

Division I | Girls and Boys entering 5th and 6th grades in September

Division II | Girls and Boys entering 7th and 8th grades in September

Division III | Girls and Boys entering 9th and 10th grades in September

Division IV | Girls and Boys entering 11th and 12th grades in September

This program is open to Borough residents and non-residents. Games may begin the week of June 11th and continue through August. Each team will generally play weekly on a weekday evening starting at 6pm. Rainouts are played on Saturday in the morning starting at 9am. The playoff tournament is scheduled for the end of August. Games will be played at Kulp Memorial Park, 2nd Street, Perkasie. Playing down in grade division is not permitted.

- Deadline is May 2, 2008 or the first hundred teams that register

- Teams must register as a group by a coach, age 18 or older

- Registration fee of $500.00 per team must accompany registration form and will cover all costs (including twelve t-shirts)

- Additional shirts can be ordered for $6.00 a shirt (shirts must be ordered when you register)

May 31, 2008 | Tyler Arboretum and The Gardens at The Cottage of David Culp and Michael Alderfer

One of the oldest arboreta in the United States, Tyler Arboretum encompasses 650 acres of renowned plant collections, champion trees, historic buildings, and native woodlands, wetlands, and meadows. Highlights during our visit include a variety of herbs in Fragrant Garden, late blooming rhododendrons in eleven acre Wister Rhododendron Garden and wildflowers on the Native Woodland walk. Tyler's Totally Terrific Tree House exhibit, which opens on the day of arrival, features tree houses created by local artisans. From whimsical to educational, each exhibit is designed to appeal to the child in al of us and inspire wonder and appreciation for trees.

In the afternoon, we will be visiting the Gardens at the Cottage, the home of David Culp, and Michael Alderfer. One of the featured gardens is a four-square vegetable garden next to the 18th-century home. These gardens, which specialize in hellebores, have been featured in many magazines. David is a freelance author, designer, national lecturer, as well as a consultant to the DuPont's. Michael's profession also involves gardening.

July 11 - 14, 2008 | Trip to the Coast of Maine

Tour will leave Franconia early and travel north through parts of New York, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire arriving in Maine at the Rockledge Inn in Boothbay Harbor, where we will stay for three nights. The inn is close to harbor activities. You will have a breakfast and lunch stop en route to Maine and we will visit a new stop at two lighthouses in South Portland, depending on time.

Saturday we will visit our friends at Sabbathday Lake, Maine, the last functioning Shaker community in the world. We will also visit Camden, a seaside town, Wiscasset, Damnscotta, and many more small, quaint towns on the water. New this year, we will be stopping to the Olsen house, the subject of numerous works of art by Andrew Wyeth, including Christina's World, 1948, now owned by the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Wyeth's series of drawings, water colors, and tempura painting feature Christina Olsen, her brother Alvaro, and the house itself, occupied the artist for nearly 30 years, from 1939 to 1968.

Sunday we will go on a two to three hour boat ride. Every evening you will have free time to enjoy Boothbay Harbor.

On the trip home, we may stop at the North Shore of Boston, including a driving tour of Glouster, and then go on to Rockport, where you will have time to eat lunch and shop. The remaining details of the trip are being finalized. You choose the show, Mary buys your tickets, and takes you to lunch at Carmines for a beautiful Italian meal. At this point, you are invited to reserve tickets for your favorite show. because they are hard to get on such short notice, NOW is the time to seek tickets for the following shows: JERSEY BOYS, WICKED, and GREASE. There are many good shows on Broadway, for which tickets are often available close to the date of this trip. Your tour operator, Mary Bachman, goes to New York City and deals with the box offices in person. Includes: motor coach transportation, lunch, tickets, and all tips.

Recreation Events


Community Garden

12'x12' and 12'x18' "year round" lots are available at the "Community Garden", 5th Street and Shadywood Drive. Initial tilling and water are provided. $15.00 per lot, $5.00 refund at the end of growing season, providing that the lot has been cleared. Lots will not be rolled over for the following year, so please drop off water keys and pick up deposits.

This is made possible by the generous donation of land from the Kenneth Kratz Real Estate Company and water from the Perkasie Borough Authority.


Community Yard Sale

Perkasie Borough's Sixth Annual Community Yard Sale will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2008 from 8am until 1pm in Lenape. Here's your opportunity to sell personal items you no longer want or need. Have all the benefits of a yard sale without having to advertise or hang signs! Spaces will be available to Perkasie Borough residents only. Those interested in participating must register in advance. The cost per space will be $5.00. Participants may park one vehicle in their space. this will be a rain or shine event. There will be some restrictions on the items that you will be permitted to sell. Stop in or call the Borough Office for details.

Lake Lenape Jamboree

Perkasie Borough's 15th Annual Lake Lenape Jamboree Car Show will be held on Sunday, May 25, 2008 in Lenape Park. All cars welcome. Those interested in participating must register in advance by completing the registration form. The form must be received by May 10.


Lucky Ducky Derby

The tenth Annual "Lucky Ducky Derby" will take place on Sunday, July 6th, 2008 - Community Day (rain date July 13), Lenape Park. The race will begin after the canoe races in the East Branch Perkiomen Creek, by boat launch. The ducks will race to the "Twin Bridges".

First place winner will receive $100
Second place winner will receive $75
Third place winner will receive $50
Fourth thru ninth place winners will receive $25

PRIZES WILL BE AWARDED IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE RACE, SO STICK AROUND FOR THE RESULTS

Tickets for the numbered ducks may be purchased at the Perkasie Borough office or from Parks and Recreational Board members.

Cost | $3.00 each or 2 for $5.00


Fall Festival

October 5, 2008 from 12pm to 5pm at Menlo Park

Entertainment for all ages: petting zoo, demonstrations, scarecrow workshop, face painting, pie contest, sand art, pony rides, refreshments, crafters, vendors, children's rides, music, and much more!!

Craft space available - bring your own set-up
$20.00 per 10'x10' in the park
$30.00 per 10'x10' preferred space (on driveway) limited to 30 spots

Scarecrow Contest, Pie Baking and Pumpkin Carving
Entry blanks for these contests will be available at the Perkasie Borough Office in September and at the information booth at the Fall Festival.


Creek Sweep

First annual Creek Sweep. Looking for community service in your area? this event is open to all individuals and groups in and around the community who want to help clean our parks. this event would be held June 7, 2008, with a rain date of June 8, 2008, from 9am to 1pm. Our goal would be to clean up Lenape Park and the creek. At the end of the Creek Sweep we would hold a picnic lunch with a massive kickball game for all volunteers. Stop by Borough Hall for a registration form available in April.


Fall Movie Under the Stars

Join us under the stars for a movie in the Park. Movies will be appropriate for all ages. Please bring your own chairs. The movie will be cancelled due to inclement weather. Menlo Aquatics Snack Bar will be open!
