Perkasie, PA — Perkasie Borough is pleased to announce significant progress on the long-planned Park Avenue Improvement Project, a major infrastructure initiative that will enhance vehicular and pedestrian safety, improve stormwater management, and provide pedestrian and bicycle connections within the community.
With the recent award of nearly $1.5 million in PennDOT Statewide Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside (TASA) funding, the Borough has now secured more than $4 million in total funding, enabling the project to move forward into design and construction.
“This funding milestone represents years of planning, collaboration, and persistence,” said David Weaver, Chair of the Public Works Committee of Perkasie Borough Council. “We are excited to begin transforming Park Avenue into a safer, more resilient, and more accessible corridor for our residents.”
The Park Avenue Improvement Project will focus on W. Park Avenue between Ridge Road and Jefferson Drive, addressing long-standing concerns related to roadway safety, pedestrian access, and stormwater management. Key improvements will include the installation of sidewalks, curbing, and ADA-compliant crossings, roadway and traffic signal upgrades, stormwater infrastructure improvements to reduce flooding and erosion, and the construction of retaining walls in areas with steep grades.
Grant timing requirements mean that the project will be carried out in two phases:
Phase 1 focuses on the Ridge Road, Park Avenue intersection, replacing and modernizing traffic signals, adding ADA-compliant crosswalks and connecting to the existing Cedar Ridge area trail. Engineering for Phase 1 is underway following a project kickoff meeting held in May 2026. Phase 1 is funded through PennDOT’s Green Light Go program and is expected to be completed by Summer 2028.
Phase 2 focuses on the full corridor between Ridge Road and Jefferson Drive, installing a new sidewalk and ADA-compliant crossings on the higher elevation side of Park Avenue, a comprehensive stormwater management system including the replacement of a deteriorated detention basin and spillway with an underground facility, and constructing retaining walls up to 12’ in height to accommodate steep grades. Because of extensive permitting, engineering review and requirements in the grant program, Phase 2 construction is anticipated to begin in 2–4 years.
The Park Avenue Improvement Project reflects extensive planning and public engagement, including community discussions held in 2021 and 2022 with residents of Park Avenue and Parkridge Drive. Borough engineers developed conceptual plans based on site conditions and community feedback, which were used to support successful grant applications. Over several years, the Borough pursued funding through multiple competitive state and federal programs before assembling the full funding package now in place.
A copy of the preliminary plans is available on the project page on the Borough website and at the Borough office.
